Accessibility compliance status of If’s digital services
If’s digital services are mainly compliant with the accessibility requirements, and there are no critical accessibility deficiencies in the services. Below is a list of the known shortcomings, and our goal is to fix them during 2026.
Perceivable
The website’s content must be perceivable by all users, including people with impaired vision or those using assistive technologies such as screen readers.
- Some decorative images lack markup indicating that they are decorative, which creates unnecessary noise for screen reader users.
- Certain links do not have sufficiently unique text, making it difficult for screen reader users to distinguish between different links in these sections.
- Text size does not increase when zooming in the browser on parts of certain pages, making it difficult for users with visual impairments to read the content.
- Some error messages are not announced by screen readers after validation, which means that users relying on screen readers are not informed about what went wrong without locating the error message manually.
- Some error messages use a background color that does not meet the minimum contrast requirements for text.
- The breadcrumb navigation has a faint focus indicator, making it difficult to see which link step is highlighted during keyboard navigation.
- Some icons lack accessible names, which makes it difficult for assistive technology users to understand the information they represent.
Operable
All functions should be operable using various input methods, such as keyboard, screen readers, or voice control.
- Some interactive elements lack a visible focus indicator, making it difficult for keyboard users to navigate and interact with them.
- The date picker does not provide sufficient keyboard or screen reader support, which makes it harder for users who cannot use a mouse to select a date.
- The screen reader repeats the placeholder text between the general search field and the search button, which may cause confusion when navigating with assistive technologies.
- Some lists lack proper markup in the code, preventing screen readers from reporting the number of list items.
- Landmarks with identical names in the footer make it difficult for users to navigate using them.
Understandable
The website’s content and interactions should be easy to understand.
- Some input fields and radio buttons lack correctly associated labels, making it difficult for users relying on screen readers or voice control to understand or navigate between fields.
Robust
The website should be technically robust and compatible with various assistive technologies and browsers.
- Some incorrect ARIA values occur, which may cause issues in how assistive technologies interpret the page.
- There are empty elements in the code without semantic purpose, which can create unnecessary noise for assistive technologies.

Accessibility of files and forms
The claim forms available to corporate customers are not yet accessible. We are currently working on making these forms accessible.
Our online services include a number of PDF files, and not all of them are accessible. For this part, we invoke disproportionate burden. Some of our systems will be updated later with the technical changes required for accessibility as part of ongoing system upgrade and development work. Unfortunately, some of our systems cannot be upgraded to support accessibility to a sufficient extent. However, we aim to fix the shortcomings as soon as possible.
If strives for equality
The Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019) applies to the statutory insurances provided by If P&C Insurance Company Ltd (publ), branch in Finland. Accessibility is one of the starting points for developing digital services at If and something that we are strongly committed to.
We seek to promote equality by developing the technical accessibility and usability of our services and the clarity of language in our content.
We provide training to our employees to improve their skills in all these areas. We are also supported by If’s dedicated team of accessibility specialists. We use a variety of tools to help us actively assess accessibility, both independently and together with external partners.
